Fighting The Good Fight
With all of the negative energy swirling around Democratic circles recently, I thought it would be a good idea to look back on exactly what was accomplished over the last three years. Rachel Maddow had a great piece on Democratic successes that aired before the midterm elections. I had used it in a previous blog but I thought it would be appropriate to revisit it here.
Remember, all of this came before the repeal of DADT, the nuclear weapons treaty with Russia and the end of Osama Bin Laden. We worry a bit too much about style and sometimes forget the substance. Democrats have been fighting for some of these things for decades and none of them would have gotten done with Republicans controlling the White House or Congress. How much damage could they do to these programs if they regain control of the White House and the Senate? Republicans understand that politics is a never ending war. They have been trying to dismantle Social Security for 80 years and they will never stop. They will do the same with the Affordable Care Act, DADT, financial regulation and everything else that the Obama administration has accomplished. The only way to preserve these pieces of legislation is to insure that the conservatives never get a chance to destroy them. Even if you don’t care for The President’s style, help him preserve his legacy.
